Erewash Valley Trail news

A couple of things to mention. Firstly, we have been given by British Waterways the key to four footfall counters on the Erewash Canal (bottom picture): two at Trent Lock and two more at Sandiacre and Langley Mill. We will be reading these gadgets, which count the numbers of users of the canal towpath at these various places, on the first day of every month and then send the numbers back to BW on a spreadsheet. These data will inform future development of the Erewash Valley Trail.

Next, signage and interpretation boards are proliferating on the EVT, especially on the Erewash Canal leg (pics). Also resurfacing is taking place on the Nottingham Canal section of the trail; not tarmac, as on the Erewash Canal leg, but crushed limestone, arguably more in keeping with this leg. When I passed by there yesterday (31 Jan) work was in progress between Cossall and Trowell (top pic). Steve Fisher tells me that we can expect to see more of this new surface on this leg of the trail in the coming months.
