More on the June 5th ride to the bridge on route 647

Further consideration of the ride to the bridge on route 647 suggests that the distance from Newark Castle station could be up to 31km (20 miles) each way if we have to access the new section of route from Harby rather than somewhere between Harby and the Cliftons. Scrambling up muddy banks is too undignified for us grey-haired ones. I still consider the best access for Derby or Notts based riders to be the Lincoln rail service from the point of view of cost and convenience. Most services from Nottingham to Newark also then call at Collingham and Swinderby, both on or very near NCN64. I give below a table of times, costs (from Derby!) and approx return distances to the bridge. Train arrivals times are for the 10:29 departure from Nottingham. All return trains detailed in the original article also call at both Swinderby (15 mins earlier) and Collingham (10 mins earlier).

Station|       Arrives at|      Return Cost|        Distance to Bridge & back
Newark        10:55             £8.10                         62km – 40 miles
Collingham    11:07             £9.90                         42km – 26 miles
Swinderby    11:12             £11.60                        32km – 20 miles

Prospective riders who intend to travel by this route can choose how far they wish to ride (or how much they want to pay!!)
