Hi all,
It is intended to shorten the ride tomorrow so that we can concentrate on the Alfreton - Blackwell area (and because I seemed to be the only person needing to start from the Shipley park area). So instead of starting the ride at Shipley Country Park, it will now start at the car park adjacent to Codnorpark reservoir just off the Coach Road near Ironville. Post Code NG16 5PX will get you in the general vicinity. Same start time of 10 am.
Maldwyn, Stuart and I did this great ride in sub-zero temperatures: from the reservoir, we took the canal towpath to Golden Valley, Coach Road to the Midland Railway Center, footpath to Leabrooks, Sleetmoor Wood Trail to Thornton's, then on to Alfreton, minor roads and paths, followed by a footpath across fields to Westhouses, road to the Silverhill Trail and a short ride up this and the 5 Pits Trail to Tibshelf. After some refreshment in Tibbie, we explored the new section of the Blackwell Trail which has been built as part of the re-landscaping of the area following open-casting, and returned to Codnor Park Reservoir by road via South Normanton, Somercotes, Riddings and Golden Valley. A very interesting and enjoyable ride of just the right length for the weather (I made it 33 km). Thanks, Stuart, for organizing this.
