BENNERLEY VIADUCT NEWS
Bill Tomson has been busy recently engaging with the local community about the Bennerley Viaduct project. He is now bidding for some interim funding to continue this phase prior to making the bid to finance the main project. He has also begun the process of forming a Friends group.
It has just been announced that UK Coal have been given permission to carry out opencast mining in the Cossall/Trowell area. The legal agreement requires the company to fund a number of measures including a structural survey of the viaduct. This will be an important component of the bid, but Sustrans will not now have to pay for it. You win some, you lose some. Not many local people are in favour of more "outcropping" in this area, but at least some good comes out of it.
