Erewash Canal Trail

The Erewash Valley Trail is a proposed 25-mile long multi-user path between Langley Mill and Trent Lock which will include the Erewash Canal and Nottingham Canal towpaths. If you want to know more about this exciting venture, follow this link http://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=6387
Picture shows the Bennerley Viaduct, a beautiful cast-iron tressle bridge once carrying the Great Northern Railway line across the Erewash Valley near Ilkeston. One day this viaduct could become used again, but by transport of a different kind: apart from possibly being incorporated into the Erewash Valley Trail, the Bennerley Viaduct could become the continuation of National Route 672 (Breadsall Greenway) from Derby, beyond Ilkeston and eventually to Nottingham.
Funding of the EVT is from the 6Cs Green Infrastructure project (6Cs = the Cities of Derby, Nottingham and Leicester, and their corresponding Counties) For more on this, follow this link

  1. This is great news. Some of us have been cycling much of this route for years, but upgrading of surfaces will be welcome. When complete it will make a terrific circuit. Also it incorporates improvements on the canal section of the Nutbrook Trail. Jeff
