These pictures show latest developments on the Monsal Trail: (1) a new ramp is being built to the platform of Great Longstone station. The previous access was narrow with steps, quite tricky for bikes;
(2) this is where the trail used to stop, south of Headstone Tunnel, and walkers had to leave the trail and walk over fields to regain the trail at Monsal Head viaduct (cyclists had to turn back!) Now the trail continues straight on towards the tunnel; (3) new signage;
(4) close-up of new signage. See reference to tunnels! (5) seen for the first time - the eastern portal of Headstone Tunnel! (but you still can't get near it - I used a zoom!); (6) Improved access to Coombs Rd, Bakewell, at the present eastern end of the trail. The RHS is tarmacked and presumably for bikes; the LHS is finished in Toptrek (I think) and has a few steps at the bottom, presumably for walkers.
