NUTBROOK TRAIL
Today I've ridden the section of the trail which runs within Erewash Borough Council borders to carry out a litter bin/dog poo bin survey. I know, but there's not much else to do around here on Sundays. It was prompted by a conversation I had with a dog-walker a few weeks ago while we were on a workday. We were on the stretch of the trail alongside Shipley View Estate, where there seemed to be both a lot of dog poo in its raw state and dog poo neatly bagged but discarded. The lady pointed out that this was a busy dog-walking area because of its proximity to the estate, but that there was only one bin.
I've spoken to Scott Buxton of EBC who has agreed to meet me to discuss locations for new bins. There is an important limiting factor on the installation of bins - they must be close to a point where access is possible for a council vehicle. Consequently I've made a note of all access points where no bins are provided. They are as follows: Shipley Common Lane and Raynham Close (these will help with the Shipley View problem); Quarry Hill Road; Stanton Gate; Mill Lane Bridge, Sandiacre. The other location is the short stretch of 672 from Manor Floods to High Lane East.
North of Shipley View there are no bins actually on the trail until you get to The Field/Coppice House. This section is not in Erewash and it might be necessary to talk to Amber Valley / Wildlife Trust/ Country Park.
Two other points arising from today's ride: litter has built up very quickly after our last workday at Beauty Spot (when did it last live up to its name?) Further south there are the usual blackspots. Secondly, the metal signs at Stanton Gate gave been defaced with thick black paint.

This area is one that our walking group often visits, and is notorious for it's litter content. Lots of housing close by is probably the source. I note that you referred to 672 (from Manor Floods to High Lane East, unofficially nominated and signed initially by Clyde) The official 672 is closer to Derby, from The Paddock pub A608 SK363 384 to A608 junction, SK381 394 with Brookside Road, Breadsall. Dbys. CC keep saying that they are going to continue the next phase to Lime Lane SK398 400 but so far nothing on the ground.

It's on the Sustrans online mapping, John, - and one day the two sections will join up! I was at the Cycling Liaison meeting at County Hall only yesterday and DCC Greenways Officer, Wayne Bexton, told us that we could expect to see some construction going on some time this year on the next stage (Broomfield).
ReplyDeleteThe so-called Beauty Spot rapidly gets into a sorry state. It would be good if EBC cleared the rubbish regularly - say, on a weekly basis - like they do at Sandiacre Waterfront, which these days looks quite tidy.
