Next Wednesday (13 March) there will be a ride in the Peak District to investigate some more of the charity Peak Cycle Link's proposed route from Buxton to the High Peak Trail. Meet at 10:00 at Grin Low car park (I don't know if it's paying) at GR 049 720. It's less than a mile from our starting point at Ladmanlow. Our ride will take us through the Health and Safety laboratories' property on the trackbed of the old Cromford and High Peak Railway and past the famous Blue Lagoon (pH 14 - bring your swimming cozzies!) We will then climb Staker Hill and join the main road into Earl Sterndale. After that, we will be ready for lunch (probably sandwiches in my case) and a pint, maybe at the Quiet Woman pub in Earl Sterndale or the Royal Oak, Sparklow (recommended!). For the rest of the trip, we could return to Buxton via Monyash, Bakewell and the Monsal Trail - and maybe take in the proposed Woo Dale link to Buxton Golf Course. I make that 31 miles. A slightly longer route (38 miles) could involve riding some of the 3-digit numbered trails after Sparklow, through Hartington, Biggin, and Minninglow and then up the High Peak Trail back to Parsley Hay and return to Buxton by the way we came. We could decide which route to take after lunch, depending on weather and other factors.
