Sustrans have repaired the broken barrier on route 67 at Crompton Road.
A section of route 67 will be closed from 13 October to 05 December. This is a short section between Straw's Bridge and Manor Floods. The alternative route will be route 672 and the A609. See DCC website for details.
At the FBI meeting this week John Holmes of DCC announced that work on the greenway at Little Eaton will commence soon. I asked why this project was being started when the Great Northern was still in progress. Why not press on with that rather than leaving a route to nowhere? He replied that DCC owned the land between Lime Lane (the current end of the greenway) and Stanley village, so that section at least could be done. He did not have the answer to my question but said he would find out. Does anyone have any inside knowledge?
There are land ownership problems in Stanley, but a short road section links to quiet lanes and good bridlepaths leading to route 67. Surely this would be a good temporary measure and the link to Ilkeston would be complete, if not perfect.
Cyclists and walkers will be spoilt for choice next year when they are looking for refreshments on the Nutbrook Trail. A new cafe is due to open next year at Lodge Farm Cottage. This will mean at the top end of the trail there will be two cafes in Shipley Park plus this one about a mile away. There is also a cafe at Shipley Garden Centre, just outside the park. This place is worth a visit for their enormous, delicious and bargain priced scones!
