As you can see from the previous post the intention for this workday was to meet up at Sandiacre bridge and work our way north along the Erewash canal to where the previous workday ended near Pastures Lock and then retrace our steps and head south towards Long Eaton. The three of us - Brian, Marie and myself - headed north as planned. This section has a steep embankment leading down to a wooded area between the canal and river Erewash and further north between canal and the railway line. This area turned out to be attractive to rubbish dumpers and the rest of the workday was spent along this stretch filling four bags with rubbish. Brian did some stirling work trimming back the overhanging branches and vegetation but Long Eaton will have to wait for another workday.
On another positive note, Brian and I checked out the Footfall counter at Sandiacre and confirmed that it didn`t register footfalls. We found that we were able to remove the counter and battery assembly from the housing and this allowed us to make a note of the supplier of the counter and the battery details. Brian agreed to investigate this further with a view to procuring a replacement battery (since I haven`t had a reply yet from the Canal & River Trust).
