Jan Hall organised a group of us to meet up at the car park of the Visitors Centre in Shipley Park with the aim of having a meeting with the Wildlife champions of the area and to combine this with a signage ride along the Nutbrook Trail to erect the new "Volunteer Ranger" and "Wildlife Champion" signs. The six of us (Dan, Jan, Stuart, Rachel, Maggie and Koltryna) departed the carpark at 10am and made our way south along the Trail to the Nutbrook Café. This is a recent addition to the amenities of the area and is to be highly recommended for its beverages and food. We had a productive meeting at the café discussing Sustrans plans for developing the route as a Wildlife corridor and a general discussion of each individuals particular interests.
On leaving the café we rode south along the Trail to Straws Bridge which is the beginning of the Sustrans owned section. The "Volunteer" and "Wildlife Champion" signs were placed here and at the Little Hallam Hill junction (Beauty Spot), Quarry Hill Road junction and at the Stanton end of the Trail junction with the Erewash Canal as well as on some of the mileposts. I was plagued with punctures as was Jan and this delayed us somewhat and we eventually returned to Shipley carpark by about 3.30pm.
