The post of 31 Oct last year explains a little of this new venture and has a link. Steve Fisher of Broxtowe Borough, which is leading the project, has been in touch. He tells me that the route has changed a little, the biggest change being that the route will not run alongside the River Erewash at Toton after all, but will follow the proposed tram route through Inham Nook/Cator lane and Long Lane. One advantage of this is that it is safer; also it will draw in Chilwell, Attenborough Village and Attenborough railway station.
Partners of the project are all doing their bit:
British Waterways is now improving twice the length of Erewash Canal towpath that was originally expected, so we should end up with a good quality route from Trent Lock to Sandiacre (readers of this blog will have been following these developments);
Steve is working on branding and interpretation. A designer has been appointed and all the partners are discussing details;
Nottinghamshire CC is putting together a programme of access improvements on the eastern side including works on the Nottingham Canal and Rights of Way network in Eastwood and Stapleford;
Derbyshire CC is developing a small improvement project on the Trent Riverside path near Cranfleet Lock to bring a short section up to scratch;
Nottinghamshire County NHS ( Broxtowe) is working on a wish list of improvements for local health walks which will be delivered by NCC or DCC;
Notts and Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts are working on a mix of projects starting with a biodiversity mapping project for the valley and including indentification of a new Local Nature Reserve and works to enhance a range of sites in the valley;

The Cranfield Lock scheme was mentioned at the DCC (South Derbyshire) meeting of 25th March. So, I recall, was the idea of a route along the Nottingham Canal from Langley Mill basin.
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds good for us. Perhaps we can arrange a joint Derby/EV Ranger Ride to celebrate our new/improved routes when appropriate?
